We are passionate about good food that is locally produced and affordable.
Specialising in the best of local and regional food, we offer quality produce from our home farm at Sunderlandwick as well as sourcing from other local farmers, Yorkshire suppliers and small food producers.
Whilst we try to primarily buy locally and from around the Yorkshire region, it is sometimes necessary to go a little further afield when local producers cannot supply us. We also recognise that unfortunately not everything can be grown in Yorkshire or the UK!
Butcher
Head butcher Nigel Duffy and his team have a wealth of knowledge and experience and are always happy to offer you advice or prepare your favourite cut of meat. All our varieties of burgers and sausages are handmade (try our award-winning Yorkshire Pork Sausages), and we also offer ready prepared dishes (e.g. spicy chilli beef stir fry or Chicken Genovese).
We are very proud to be able to offer our home-produced Sunderlandwick Beef through the Farm Shop. Our award-winning Sunderlandwick Herd of South Devon pedigree cattle form the basis of our traditional grass-fed single-suckler herd. South Devon cattle (also known as Orange Elephants) are the largest of the British Native Breeds. They are the ’gentle giants’ of the beef world and their easy-going temperament produces very high quality tender and marbled beef.
Our stock all graze on permanent pastures and parkland within a mile of the farm shop. We know that good husbandry means our beef will taste better too! Our beef is hung for 3-4 weeks to give time for the enzymes to break down the fibres which makes it more tender, a deeper red colour and adds flavour.
Nigel personally buys our meat from local producers and suppliers across the region. Our pork is from Annie’s Happy Trotters herd of free range pigs which are kept outside their whole life. The pigs are slower growing because so much of their energy is spent running around and this produces great tasting succulent meat.
Bakery and Deli
We sell a wonderful range of pastries. We make our own sausage rolls and scotch eggs (using premium free-range sausage meat from our butcher) as well as a selection of quiches and tarts inspired by fresh seasonal ingredients.
We make sandwiches to order and can supply buffets for local functions too – just ask our staff who will be more than happy to help. Our home-cooked free-range pork and Sunderlandwick beef are also very tempting especially when just out of the oven!
We also have a good range of meats, cheeses and homemade salads.
Fruit and veg stall
We offer a good selection of seasonal fresh produce, as much as possible grown locally.
The Store Cupboard
We think we have a wonderful selection of store cupboard goodies for you: jams, honey and jellies; spices and pastes; specialist cook-in-sauces; olive and rapeseed oils and dressings; a huge variety of biscuits, cakes and sweets; crisps, nuts and seeds; cereals and flours; teas and coffees; fruit juices, cordials and beverages.
If you are rushed, our freezers also have a large selection of frozen fruit and veg, ready to cook roast potatoes and Yorkshire puds.
Dairy and Fresh Produce
Locally produced milk, cream, yoghurts, Yorkshire ice-creams, free-range Yorkshire eggs and our very popular duck eggs.
